Foo Fighters Frontman Dave Grohl Downplays Reports of Band Hiatus - Loudwire

Even though the U.K. may be thousands of miles away, it really is a small world when the Internet gets involved. And that is something that Dave Grohl is realizing firsthand this week after making comments Sunday to the Reading Festival crowd that it would be the last time they would see the Foo Fighters for a long while.

Grohl told the audience, “You guys realize we’ve got a lot of songs to play. It’s the last show of the tour and it’s the last show for a long time.” Even though the Foo Fighters still have several U.S. dates ahead, the remark had fans buzzing about a potential hiatus for the group.

However, after seeing enough commentary on the band’s social networking about his comments, Grohl headed to the Foos’ Twitter account to respond:

Jeesh! Relax…..I was only talking TO England!! ABOUT England…Stop eavesdropping internets!

The group still has a handful of shows planned in the coming month. The Foos recently announced their participation in a Rock the Vote event Sept. 5 at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, and will also perform at Atlanta’s Music Midtown Sept. 21 and Pensacola Beach, Fla.’s DeLuna Fest Sept. 22. They’ll end their string of U.S. dates with a Sept. 29 free show as part of the Global Festival in New York’s Central Park.

While that may seem a little sparse, the tour portion of the band’s website states, “We are coming for you, too. More shows being added here soon.”

Dave Grohl Calls Foo Fighters' Reading Set 'Last Show for a Long ... - Loudwire

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl announced from the stage at the UK’s Reading festival on Sunday night (Aug. 26) that the gig would be their last show for a long time, as it marked the end of their summer tour. However, the band does have a couple of more high-profile gigs at the various festivals throughout September.

Near the beginning of the set, according to NME, Grohl addressed the audience, saying, “Well, well, well. The f—ing Reading festival. You guys realize we’ve got a lot of songs to play. It’s the last show of the tour and it’s the last show for a long time.”

Grohl may have been referring specifically to the band’s European fans during the set, as the remaining 2012 gigs are all in the United States. The Foos will play a Rock the Vote event in Charlotte, N.C., on Sept. 5; the Music Midtown festival in Atlanta on Sept. 21; the Deluna Festival in Pensacola, Fla., on Sept. 22; and the Global Festival in New York’s Central Park on Sept. 29. After those shows, it seems the band will be taking a long break from the road.

Another noteworthy moment of the Foos’ set at the Reading Festival came when Grohl dedicated the song ‘These Days’ to his Nirvana bandmates — Krist Novoselic and the late Kurt Cobain. “I’d like to dedicate this song to a couple of people who couldn’t be here tonight. This one’s for Krist and this one’s for Kurt,” announced Grohl before the band launched into the song.

The set on Sunday also marked 20 years since Nirvana played their memorable headlining gig at Reading in 1992. Check out Foo Fighters’ set list from their Reading festival gig below.

Foo Fighters Frontman Dave Grohl Set to Pay Tribute to Teachers in ... - Loudwire

The Foo Fighters might rock but frontman Dave Grohl wants you to know that teachers do too.

Grohl will bring that message to the masses on a new CBS special aptly titled ‘Teachers Rock’ set to air on August 18 at 8PM ET.

The show is designed to put extraordinary teachers and education in the spotlight and will feature stars from music and film talking about the personal influences their teachers had on them with a specific emphasis on music.

It’s not clear yet whether or not Grohl will perform on the TV show or just be interviewed about his favorite teachers so fans will have to tune in to find out. Grohl will be joined by several other musicians for the special including Maroon 5’s Adam Levine and actor/musician Jack Black from Tenacious D.

The show will also serve as a fundraiser with donations benefiting three great causes – DonorsChoose.org, Feeding America and Teach for America.
