Leicester band Kasabian and US rockers The Foo Fighters close the Reading and Leeds festival on Sunday night, in what organisers said was the most successful festival they had produced in a 'long long time.'

The Foo Fighters played for more than two-and-a-half hours and decided These Days to former band mates Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic.

Lead singer Dave Grohl said the 26-song set would be the final gig of their tour to support their seventh studio album Wasting Light.

Speaking on stage he said it would be " the last show for a long time." It had been rumoured that Grohl would acknowledge the 20th anniversary of Nirvana's headline spot at the festival with a cover of one of their tracks. This did not happen, but he did ask the crowd to sing Happy Birthday to his mother, as he did twenty years ago. He said to the crowd:

n 1992 when Nirvana played here, the last show we ever played in England, you sang happy birthday to my mom. Here's your chance.

Meanwhile in Leeds the crowd were treated to a performance from Florence and the Machine, who played before headliners Kasabian.

Festival organiser Melvin Benn told BBC's newsbeat this year's festival had gone extremely smoothly:

I would say this year's Reading and Leeds have been the calmest and easiest we've produced in a long long time

Thames Valley Police said there were only 53 crimes reported as of Sunday evening, compared with 141 last year.
