Report: Foo Fighters do last show for 'long time'

Music industry online magazine NME says the Foo Fighters have played their "last show for a long time," but an official familiar with the group says it has more concerts scheduled.

As the group wrapped up a gig in Reading, England, on Sunday, frontman Dave Grohl told the crowd the tour, in support of its latest album "Wasting Light," would be its last -- a comment that has set fans in the Twittersphere alight with concern.

But the official says Grohl's comments were misinterpreted. The official said on condition of anonymity that the band has four U.S. shows in September and that after that it will take some time off "after touring the world for a year."

Grohl is the former drummer for the hugely successful band Nirvana.

Updike's childhood home bought, museum planned

John Updike's childhood home in Pennsylvania has been purchased by a group that plans to restore it and turn it into a museum.

The John Updike Society bought the home in Shillington, about 50 miles northwest of Philadelphia, for $180,000 on Monday. The Pulitzer Prize-winning author lived there until he was 13.

The society hopes the 1900 house can be preserved and re-created to reflect how it would have looked in Updike's youth. The Reading Eagle reports organizers will seek donated materials for display.

Best known for his novels chronicling the life of Harry "Rabbit" Angstrom, Updike won Pulitzers for two

of those stories, "Rabbit Is Rich" and "Rabbit at Rest." He died in 2009 at age 76.

Watchdog: 3,600 complaints over naked prince pics

A press watchdog says it has received some 3,600 complaints over the The Sun's decision to publish nude photos of Britain's Prince Harry.

The tabloid was the only national newspaper to carry the pictures, which first appeared online and quickly became an international talking point.

They captured the third in line to Britain's throne frolicking in the nude with an unidentified woman after what was alleged to have been a game of strip billiards in his Las Vegas hotel room.

Royal officials argued that the photos were a breach of the prince's privacy, but the officials weren't among those who'd filed complaints with Britain's Press Complaints Commission.

That makes it unlikely any action will be taken against The Sun, which said it published the photos in the public interest.

Christina Aguilera: New album is a 'rebirth'

Christina Aguilera is comparing her upcoming album to a "rebirth."

"I've been through a lot since the release of my last album, being on ('The Voice'), having had a divorce," she said. "This is all sort of a free rebirth for me."

Her new album's first single, "Your Body," was produced by Max Martin, who also produced Aguilera's last hit, the Maroon 5 smash "Moves Like Jagger," where she was featured.

The new album, which is without a release date or announced title, will feature fellow "Voice" coach Cee Lo Green and comes two years after Aguilera's lackluster "Bionic," which has sold 310,000 units, according to Nielsen SoundScan. That album featured electronic and dance-flavored tracks as well as pop ballads; it's her only album to not reach platinum status.

Aguilera will perform the song on NBC's "The Voice" on Sept. 17. The show's third season starts Sept. 10.

Foo Fighters Play 'Last Show For A Long Time,' Closing Reading ... - Huffington Post

Foo Fighters Last Show Dave GrohlDave Grohl, center, and the Foo Fighters perform at the 54th annual Grammy Awards on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012 in Los Angeles.

Eighteen years ago in Seattle, Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl decided to form a new band after the death of singer Kurt Cobain. Today, the Foo Fighters are regarded as one of the greatest (and one of the most seismologically intense) rock bands of the new millennium.

But on Sunday, Grohl told the crowd at the 2012 Reading Festival that the performance marked the Foo Fighters' "last show for a long time."

"Well, well, well. The f--king Reading festival. You guys [realize] we've got a lot of songs to play. It's the last show of the tour and it's the last show for a long time," Grohl said, according to NME.

He went on to dedicate "These Days" to former Nirvana bandmates, Cobain and Krist Novoselic, telling the audience, "I'd like to dedicate this song to a couple of people who couldn't be here tonight. This one's for Krist and this one's for Kurt.''

The Foo Fighters' frontman might have been in a particularly nostalgic mood, since Sunday marked the 20-year anniversary of Nirvana's headlining performance at the Reading Festival in 1992, according to LoudWire. It was the last show the band ever played in England.

Novoselic wrote a piece for Seattle Weekly back in 2009, before the release of "Nirvana: Live at Reading."

"I think the show was such a success because of the audience," Novoselic wrote about the 1992 performance. "They gave so much that it was easy to swat it back. The best moment is the crowd sing-a-long to 'Lithium.'"

Grohl channeled the crowd's energy on Sunday when he got the audience to sing "Happy Birthday" to his mother, according to NME. "In 1992 when Nirvana played here, the last show we ever played in England, you sang happy birthday to my mom. Here's your chance," he said. The crowd responded.

Despite Grohl saying that Reading marked the Foo Fighters' "last show," the band has some dates lined up next month, CBS News notes. They are set to appear at Rock the Vote in Charlotte, N.C., on Sept. 5, as well as at the Music Midtown Festival in Atlanta on Sept. 21 and the DeLuna Fest in Pensacola Beach, Fla, on Sept. 22.

Foo Fighters made the last night of the Reading Festival in England one to remember by playing a mammoth 26-song set and singing happy birthday to Dave Grohl's mum.

The band brought the three-day music event to an end on Sunday night after headlining at the festival's sister site in Leeds, England on Friday.

Ploughing through 26 tracks over two-and-a-half hours, Grohl announced that the performance would be the band's last for the near future.

"You guys realise we've got a lot of songs to play," he told the audience.

"It's the last show of the tour and it's the last show for a long time."

The frontman also took time to remember his former Nirvana bandmates, Krist Novoselic and the late Kurt Cobain, by dedicating his Three Days song to them.

He added, "I'd like to dedicate this song to a couple of people who couldn't be here tonight. This one's for Krist and this one's for Kurt.''

Grohl then remembered when Nirvana played the festival 20 years earlier and how the crowd sang happy birthday to his mother - and brought her out onstage to relive the moment.

"In 1992 when Nirvana played here, the last show we ever played in England, you sang happy birthday to my mom. Here's your chance.''

Meanwhile, Kasabian closed Leeds festival with renditions of the Beatles' She Loves You and Fatboy Slim's Praise You, as well as paying tribute to late astronaut Neil Armstrong, who died on Saturday.
